Album in the Car.....4

For this installment of Album in the Car (AITC), we have another Irish Folk act. I must be in some sort of 'folky' mood at the minute seeing as the last 2 AITC's have been folk artists.

So this time around it's singer/songwriter Lisa Hannigan and her second studio album 'Passenger'. Released in 2011, the Choice Music Prize nominated album was preceded by the clever video for 'Knots' (which you can view below).

The album contains a duet with American artist Ray LaMontagne, 'O Sleep'. Their voices complimenting each other so well like Hannigan had previously with Damien Rice as a member of his band.

The stand out tracks for me on the album are 'Little Bird' which would bring a tear to a budgie's glass eye and the beautifully upbeat and lyrically clever 'What'll I Do'. Overall, this is a sensational album and one of my 'desert island discs' albums.

Album can bought from Lisa Hannigan Official Store

Album in the Car......3

Unfortunately it's been nearly 2 weeks since I last did an 'Album in the Car' post. Mainly because I wasn't working and was barely in the car. So, having been back this week I went through the collection and picked this.

Fionn Regan - The End of History (2006).

Fionn Regan is an Folk songwriter from Bray, Co Wicklow. I remember when this album first came out and really disliking 'Penny in the slot' when I first heard it on the radio. I've no particular reason why I did but for some reason it stuck in my head. Heard it a few times more and found myself singing along to eventually really liking it and wanting to hear more from him.

So I bought the album and the rest is history as they say. The album opens with the brilliant - and my now favourite track from the album -  'Be Good or Be Gone' and continues in the same vein. But strangely unlike a lot of other folk artists he manages to make each and every song original, each it's own uniqueness, made especially difficult because of his distinctive voice.

There are 11 great songs on this album, of 13 songs (keep your ear out for the fantastic 'Campaign Button', which is a hidden track at the end of the album).

Another recommended listen.

Feel free to comment and share.

Album in the car....2

This weeks album in the car is an oldie but a goodie. Space - Spiders. I hadn't listened to the album in about 10 years until recently. Spiders was released right in the middle of the 'Brit-Pop' hype largely won by Oasis and Blur, but this is one of those little gems that got through along with them.

Five singles were released from the album, all of which made the top 20. Their most famous probably being 'Female of the Species' with several appearances in TV and Cinema.

I recommend giving this another listen (or first listen). Spiders is available from Amazon and iTunes.

Album in the car....Week 1

Every week I will do what album has been dominating my automotive airwaves while I drive back and forth which seems to take up more time than anything else.
Well for week 1, this has been dominating my radio for a few weeks now but it is Biffy Clyro - Opposites.
